Will Anderson of N.Y.C. band Hotline TNT recalls being blown away in Milwaukee.
Will Anderson: The best concert experience I can remember is on one of my first big North American tours back in 2013. My band was playing in Milwaukee at a vintage clothing store of some kind in River West, and a very loud local band called Technicolor Teeth played before or after us and completely shredded my face off.
My Bloody Who? I couldn’t believe how loud the guitars were but more importantly how catchy the songwriting was, and it really influenced the way I thought about the shoegaze genre. They would’ve done nothing for me if they didn’t have power pop hooks all over the place, and I still think about the show to this day. The dudes in the band were also genuine weirdos (one of whom would produce Raspberry Moon over a decade later) which of course made it even better.
It was a pivotal DIY rock concert for me and it has become my go-to answer whenever someone asks me who the best live band I ever saw was.
Hotline TNT's album Raspberry Moon is out now on Third Man Records.
