Nina Diaz of Girl in a Coma told us about her Fun Fun Fun Fest experience...
Nina Diaz: We have had the pleasure of opening for many of our influences such as Smashing Pumpkins, Morrissey, and The Smoking Popes. Our biggest audience to date was half a million people at Polish Woodstock.
That was crazy because I even did a bungee jump at this set up they had at the fest. Right before I jumped the safety inflated balloon was being deflated and it freaked my band out, but here I am still so I survived!
One time we played Fun Fun Fun fest in Austin, TX. One of Mike Patton's bands was also playing. I'm a huge fan so while Phanie and I were backstage, we saw Mike Patton go into a tent. Phanie pumped me up to follow him in and try to meet him. A security guard stopped me before I could enter, but I gave him a sad face and said I just wanna shake his hand. Luckily the guard let me in, and Mike was a sweet heart and even said he knew who I was! Most recently we saw Joan Jett and Billy Idol in Austin. It was my first time seeing Billy Idol and by the end of the show all I wanted to do was lick his face because damn is he cool!
For the show coming up in Los Angeles we're excited to present the Bell Systems -- the band from the theater project I am involved with called Adobe Punk by Theresa Chavez at About...Productions.
Girl in a Coma performs with Skating Polly and Bell Systems at 8 p.m. on Friday, March 27 at the Echoplex.
