Post-punker CrowJane told us about her Bauhaus experience at Cruel World...
CrowJane: The most recent show that comes to mind that I walked out of inspired and amazed that I got to witness such talent of showmanship is Bauhaus at Cruel World in 2022. They really stole the show for the whole festival.
The night was a a super flower blood moon... The dark and the moody vibes were perfect for the dark post-punk pioneers.
It was the full line-up with all four original band members and the show started with just a giant black and white film noir close up of Peter Murphy’s face. Then, you see the silhouettes of Daniel Ash and David J in smoke and flashing white lights with Kevin Haskins on drums in the back.
The whole first song was a masterclass on how to seduce an audience into a dark realm at an outdoor festival while using video imagery intelligently. As Peter Murphy's face fades away on the screen, the stage lit up with blue and white lights. And then, they start to play their hits with Daniel Ash taking front and center, wailing on his guitar. As the third song kicked in, Peter Murphy finally comes to stage front with all his usual antics and props. Their whole set was awesome.
CrowJane's "Reign" and "Songs of Sparrows" are out now.
