Prince

"Calabama"

Would Prince have wanted his vault of unreleased music heard after his death? I’ve wondered about this while enjoying the music of Timeless, the posthumous album featuring 10 previously unreleased songs. Don’t know the answer but the funky exuberance of “Calabama,” which sounds very Glam Slam-era and sees him get rappy (like only he can), is highly enjoyable nonetheless. It’s bringing some bounce to my commute, that’s for sure. The album version featured live horns recorded after his passing, but the Estate also put out a raw version which you can listen to on Spotify.

The Interrupters

"She's Kerosene"

Bouncy and whimsical as all ska should be, The Interrupters tell a story of someone realizing they've been burned one too many times in toxic relationships. In true third-wave ska fashion, the track is defined by harsh power chords and a juxtaposing upbeat "skank rhythm". The track is perfect for generic head bobbing or full-on two-stepping until the checkerboard floor cracks.

The Varukers

"Die For Your Government"

Absolutely down-the-throat street punk from these glorious oiks! An anti-authority anthem when the world needs it most.

The Motet

“We Got U” (Live at Doghouse Music Studios)

Bringing back the FUNK! This Colorado-based ensemble has been putting out tight groove beats for close to three decades. They consistently deliver soul hooks and explosive jazz-funk rhythms, producing an infectious, high-energy sound that moves everyone from their seats straight to the dance floor.

The Smashing Pumpkins

"Black Stars"

A brand new track just released by The Smashing Pumpkins. Reuniting with legendary producer Butch Vig for this song that will be featured on the soundctrack album for the new Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping movie, this is a catchy upbeat song and music video definitely worth checking out.
