Staff Picks with Bucks Fizz, Joan Baez, Uyama Hiroto, and Type O Negative

Bucks Fizz

"The Land of Make Believe"

With Eurovision just around the corner, it's time to get kitschy with one of Britain's most iconic Eurovision bands. This wasn't the song that won the competition for Bucks Fizz -- that was "Making Your Mind Up." But this tune is better. The lyrics, by King Crimson man Peter Sinfield, were apparently a dig at the policies of then-Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher. All the better!

Joan Baez

"We Shall Overcome"

How telling, how sad, that we are back in those dark, hateful times by those who claim illegal power over the powerless. WE ARE NOT AFRAID dtj!

Associate Editor Ruby Risch

Uyama Hiroto

"One Dream"

Let’s just all chill out.

Type O Negative

"My Girlfriend's Girlfriend"

Sultry and seductive Type O Negative can always take the strangest of subjects and find the macabre beauty in them. Despite the less-than-serious tone of the track, the opening organ keys draw you in with a carnal ambience that refuses to let go until the song's conclusion at a little past three minutes.
