Sony Masterworks Signs the Accidentals

Sony Music Masterworks has signed alternative folk-rock band the Accidentals. Named one of Yahoo Music’s Top 10 Bands to Watch in 2017, the indie group will release their major label debut in the spring, supported by a national tour.

Since 2012, the Accidentals, multi-instrumental duo led by Sav Buist and Katie Larson--with touring and studio drummer Michael Dause--have toured from coast to coast, sharing stages with Martin Sexton, Brandi Carlile, Andrew Bird, Rusted Root, the Wailers, Carbon Leaf, Keller Williams, Joan Baez and others.

The band’s forthcoming album was recorded with engineer and co-producer Jason Lehning (Mat Kearney, Guster, George Jones, Alison Krauss, Aubrie Sellers) with guest appearances by the Decemberists’ Jenny Conlee, Jack White’s bassist Dominic John Davis, singer-songwriter Keller Williams and percussive guitar virtuoso Kaki King.

The Accidentals chose Sony Music Masterworks for worldwide distribution of the new album, in part, due to “the longevity of Masterworks’ artists as career musicians” and the label’s ability “to support the bands’ diversity as composers, arrangers, producers and authors.”

“We feel like we can be truly who we are and they appreciate the honesty,” Larson said of Sony Music Masterworks. Buist called it “a family of like-minded music nerds that gets us and our music, and wants to support that authentically.”
