Simple Minds, Scotland’s best selling group of the 80’s stopped at the Orpheum Theatre in Los Angeles, CA on Oct 24. This was the biggest production I’ve seen at that venue between the screens and thrust stage. For 40 years Simple Minds have achieved international fame between selling around 70 million albums as well has having five number one albums in the UK and albums that hit number one in multiple countries. Since 1979 Simple Minds have released 18 albums with their latest release being Walk Between Words, released in February this year. This was Simple Minds first U.S. tour in five years. The band has had a number of lineup changes over the years and Jim Kerr (Lead Vocals) and Charlie Burchill (Guitar) are the two remaining original members.
Simple minds broke the show into two sets of songs from their extensive catalog as well as new ones from Walk Between Words. Simple Minds played a staggering set of 24 songs including “All the Things She Said,” “Don’t You (Forget About Me),” “New Gold Dream (81-82-83-84),” and an encore of “Once Upon a Time,” “Alive and Kicking” and “Sanctify Yourself.” It’s not too often you go to a show these days and see the audience standing and for Simple Minds the audience was standing throughout both sets.
