Rod Stewart

Rod Stewart at the Santa Barbara Bowl in Santa Barbara, CA

Sir Roderick Stewart performed at the Santa Barbara Bowl on Oct. 21. Sir Rod, CBE (Most Excellent Order of the British Empire) is a British rock singer and songwriter, born and raised in London, of Scottish and English ancestry. Stewart, 73, is one of the best-selling music artists of all time, having sold over 100 million records worldwide. A few of his top songs include "Maggie May," "Da Ya Think I'm Sexy?," "Hot Legs," "Tonight I'm Yours’ (Don't Hurt Me),"  and “Have I Told You Lately.”

The show was scheduled to start at 7 p.m., but word got to the media that the show had been delayed.

In the music business it does happen, but here at the Santa Barbara Bowl there is a strict city ordinance with a strict sound curfew of 10 p.m. curfew, lights out and the music stops. At this venue, everyone is very aware of being on time. At 7:20 p.m. the lights lowered and the checkerboard curtain lifted to reveal a checkerboard stage with a band in checkerboard suit jackets playing checkboard instruments. After a brief band-only intro, Stewart danced his way to center stage clad in a leopard-print blazer, sneakers and his now signature black stovepipe trousers, the only thing different was that Rod Stewart had a fracture boot on his right foot, as he walked to the mic he explained that he had fractured his ankle while playing soccer/football with his sons. As the good showman that he is, Rod shouted “the show must go on”. I have to give him a lot of kudos for not letting down his fans. He put on a great Las Vegas-style show with his choreography, his classic voice and his music. No one was disappointed, he still is the ultimate showman.
