Novation and Mixtape Madness Present: Behind The Hits

U.K. Hip-Hop tastemakers Mixtape Madness have joined forces with Novation to launch a new mini-series, ‘Behind The Hits’, a weekly series set to inspire and educate the next generation of producers.

Hosted over on Mixtape Madness’ YouTube channel, this series invites the producers behind some of the biggest tracks in UK Rap, Grime and Drill to discuss their music-making methods. The series features Carns Hill, Gotcha, Jester, X10, Mazza, and a secret guest, soon to be revealed. With a YouTube audience of over 1.5 million subscribers, music fans and producers alike will be tuning in for each new episode, dropping weekly at 4PM GMT.

Mixtape Madness has curated ‘Behind The Hits’ in partnership with Novation to celebrate the release of the new and versatile sample-based groovebox Circuit Rhythm, focusing on the growing community of global beatmakers.

‘Behind The Hits’ digs deep into the production methods of the UK’s most wellknown producers, creating a sound that has been adopted by rappers and producers across the globe, as well as providing valuable advice for aspiring music makers. On top of the series, the featured producers will also use Circuit Rhythm to create and curate an exclusive Mixtape Madness soundpack for Novation.

Starting off the series is Brixton-based producer Carns Hill. Carns Hill has long been regarded as a pioneer of the UK Drill sound, steadily climbing his way up the ranks in the UK Rap movement. Working with the likes of Skepta, Krept and Konan, Section Boyz, Blade Brown, and 67, this producer is acknowledged as one of the brightest in the game.

East London’s Mazza follows Carns Hill in the series line-up. Collaborating with the likes of AJ Tracey and Giggs, Mazza is a highly sought-after double-platinum producer, making huge waves in the scene.

In the third episode of the series, Gotcha will be giving a masterclass on his production methods. The Finesse Forever member and platinum producer has been behind Drill’s first official UK Number 1, ‘Body’, and two other UK Top Ten entries ‘Gun Lean’ and ‘Keisha & Becky’. Responsible for taking Drill to the next level and making it a mainstay in UK mainstream charts, he has collaborations with US rapper Jack Harlow jumping on a remix, and outside of the UK, Gotcha has credits for Australia’s OneFour and New York’s 22gz.

Following on from Gotcha, Jester takes the next slot in the ‘Behind The Hits’ series, talking us through his work. Jester has worked with 410, TPL, CGM and Fumez The Engineer. As well as collaborations with ArrDee, Jester has worked on hits such OFB's ‘Farm All Stars’, ‘6am in Brighton’, ‘Plugged in Freestyle’ with Fumez The Engineer, and co-produced ArrDee's ‘Daily Duppy’. Our penultimate producer in the series will be X10, who has built a reputation as a versatile one-to-watch producer. Still in the early days of this career, X10 moves easily between Drill, Trap, Rap and R&B, and has already worked with serious names from the UK Drill and Rap scene, including Digga D, Unknown T, M1llionz, DigDat, V9, M24 and many more.

In the series finale, ‘Behind The Hits’ will be joined by a surprise special guest, sure to excite many apsiring producers and alongside this announcement, an exclusive Mixtape Madness soundpack will be released, giving beatmakers new samples and sounds to build their own beats with.
