Straight away, when listening to the songs “How Do You” and “Are You Lonely,” it’s clear that Detroit artist Angie Hartley has the potential to bring in a mainstream audience. The tunes are there, the songwriting is on point, and the musicianship is exemplary. In addition, and as is the norm for Motor City artists, there’s an edge that makes the music all the more attractive. In this case, that edge takes the form of a hint of spit ‘n’ thunder rockabilly. Just enough to introduce a necessary element of danger. There’s a touch of Gwen Stefani about Hartley’s vocals too. Check it out!
