Hailing from Calfornia’s Central Coast, the Miss Leo trio shows how to maximize the less-is-more approach to good, homespun, acoustic country-folk music. With just their voices, guitar and fiddle (no drums whatsoever) singer Miss Leo shows why she’s referred to as a “soulgrass songstress.” “All I need is for you to believe in me” she sings in “All I Need” with a voice that not only has a mellow huskiness, but can also reach high when it needs to. The male backup harmonies are equally affecting, as well. And let’s not overlook the fiddle (as in the song “Sparrow”), which contributes a great spirit time and again. And each song is so nicely recorded, somehow nailing the warm, “front porch” glow in which this music thrives.
