My Favorite Album: Mel Denisse Loves Mew

Mew

Frengers (Sony)

Nashville alt-rock/shoegaze artist Mel Denisse told us about her love for a Mew gem...

Mel Denisse: Frengers is an album that I always return to for inspiration and it serves as a reminder to not have to fit a certain mold. “Special” is the first track I heard (and don’t I wish it could’ve been part of this album), but tracks like "156," "Behind the Drapes," "Snow Brigade," and "She Spider" are also favorites.

I appreciate weird, out of left field lyrics and the juxtapositions with the aggressive, driving guitars paired with these almost delicate vocals. I also love the moments where they include a really exaggerated low octave vocal that gives it another layer of eeriness, so that's something I like to play with in my own music now as well.

Mel Denisse's "aiming alone" is out now.
