George Thorogood

Music Album Review: George Thorogood - Party of One (9/10)

There’s a phrase “you can’t go home again.” Well, don’t tell that to boogie guitar king George Thorogood. This is his first-ever solo album and it is a welcome one. In his own words: “This record is what I was, what I am and what I always will be.” It is chock full of classics from John Lee Hooker and Hank Williams to the Rolling Stones. Thorogood’s acumen on electric slide is certainly legendary. He raises the bar here, with his unaccompanied work on acoustic guitar and Dobro. Highlights include the sweet sentiment of “Soft Spot,” the raunchy “Tallahassee Women” and, of course, “One Bourbon, One Scotch, One Beer.”
