Chicago Rapper Lil Durk Signs to Alamo/Interscope

Chicago-bred rapper Lil Durk has signed to Alamo Records/Interscope Records. Lil Durk arrives at Alamo Records after five years with Def Jam Recordings.

“It's a big day for Alamo to be able to partner with an artist of Durk's caliber. This is his time and we are thrilled that he has chosen us to be a part of it,” said Todd Moscowitz, Alamo Records Founder.

Later this year, Lil Durk will make his full-length debut for Alamo/Interscope with Signed To The Streets 3. The third studio album from Lil Durk, Signed To The Streets 3 will feature appearances by artists like Future, Ty Dolla $ign, and Juice WRLD.

Lil Durk comments: “I went somewhere that made me feel like I was top priority; a place that needed me just as much as I needed them.  Since the beginning of the discussions with Todd, Shari, Joie, Nigel and the people over Alamo/Interscope, they made me feel that way.  Plus the MONEY was lovely, lol.  My team and I went a whole year and half where we basically did everything on our own, no support, no promo, we didn’t complain we just got to it.  It made us stronger.  Now that Alamo/Interscope partnered with us, the sky is the limit for sure.”

In March, Lil Durk independently released his most recent project, a mixtape titled Just Cause Y’all Waited. The project landed on the Billboard 200 chart, and reached #5 on the US Independent Albums chart. In addition, Just Cause Y’all Waited earned praise from the likes of Pitchfork, who hailed Lil Durk as “one of Chicago’s most compelling narrators” and noted that the rapper “has distinguished himself with wicked specificity and cutting turns of phrase.”

Born Durk Banks on October 19, 1992, Lil Durk grew up in the Englewood area, a particularly notorious neighborhood in Chicago’s South Side. His early releases include the well-received single “Sneak Dissin,” which motivated him to move forward with a career in rap. Soon after his debut mixtape I’m A Hitta arrived in 2011, he landed on Complex’s “10 New Chicago Rappers To Watch Out For” list. The following year, he put out a remix of his song “L’s Anthem” featuring Yo Gotti, Juelz Santana, Meek Mill, and Future, then inked a deal with French Montana’s label Coke Boys in 2013. Also in 2013, he released Signed to the Streets, which Rolling Stone named one of the 10 best mixtapes of the year.

The founder of a collective called Only the Family, Lil Durk is also affiliated with Glory Boyz Entertainment (a now-defunct label helmed by Chief Keef). During his time at Def Jam, he delivered his first studio album Remember My Name, a 2015 release that debuted at #14 on the Billboard 200. Arriving in 2016, his second studio album Lil Durk 2X hit #29 on the Billboard 200 and #5 on the US Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums chart.
