Co-Founder of the Lovin’ Spoonful and solo artist John Sebastian played the Smothers Theater at Pepperdine University in Malibu, CA on Jan. 10. In the short time the Lovin’ Spoonful was together (1964-1969) Sebastian was on 6 of the band's 7 albums. The group disbanded just a year after Sebastian left and didn’t reform again until 1979 for the Paul Simon film One Trick Pony. Sebastian joined the group again one more time in 2000 when the Lovin’ Spoonful was inducted into the Rock N’ Roll Hall of Fame. Sebastian was inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame as a solo artist in 2008. Sebastian also performed at Woodstock as the promoters needed an acoustic performer to play between sets after heavy rainfall. Sebastian not only told stories and performed classic hits, but he did it in a way that told his story from The Lovin’ Spoonful to becoming a solo artist. Sebastian played many hits including “Do You Believe in Magic?,” “Welcome Back,” “Daydream” and “You Didn’t Have to Be So Nice.”
Sebastian has nine remaining shows through April 17, five of which will be in Florida.
