Belgian DJ and producer Lost Desert says that his first public DJ gig was in 1991.
"[It was] playing a very small café in Antwerp on a Monday night," he says. "[I was] so nervous, my hands were shaking so hard, I had trouble putting the needle on the record, and I remember no people, only the manager and bar help. However, the week after they asked me to play on Saturday night."
The artist likes to think that the desert sound has been "polished and emotional, but I don't like doing the same thing too long."
Lost Desert's latest release is Drift.
"The title track 'Drift a little Longer,' for me personally, is another milestone in my career," he says. "For 20+ years, I recorded vocals with various artists or session vocalists. 'Drift a little Longer' was the first vocal I generated with the help of Vokalstudio. Note: I do still write my music and lyrics! 'Shooting Stars' is my first collaboration with Paul Ross, an Ibiza-based DJ/ producer. This track gives me that ‘90s, '00s vibe, like 'chicane,' 'Nalin&Kane,' to name two. 'Aalam waahid' (meaning 'One World') is a more dance floor-oriented track--driving groove and baselines, with a building break."
As for gear: "My DAW is Logic Pro," he says. "My fav plugins are Spectrasonic, fab Filter, and UAD. Most of the timem I start making grooves and drums in Native Maschien. I own a vintage collection of synthesizers like Juno 60 juno106, jx305, Voyager, Moog One, Prophet6, [and] Nordlead4. For mixing, I have SSLxDesk, SSLFusion, Chandler limited Summing, Genelec One, Genelec1031a, [and] Yamaha NS10."
Looking ahead, Lost Desert has plenty planned for the second half of 2026.
"There is a release coming on Balance Rec called 'Black Panther,' and by the end of summer I will have a release on the amazing Magnifik imprint from Samm(BE) and Ajna."
