U.K. techno DJ and producer Tobias Paul has been producing and DJing for over 10 years now, initially under a different name.
"[I've] been through a lot of phases, sounds, and scenes," he says. "But at some point, I felt like I needed something new creatively. That’s where Tobias Paul came from. A fresh direction. No pressure, no expectations — just music that feels raw, groovy, and honest. Honestly that’s when it all clicked again."
Paul describes his music as, "groovy, weird, and heavy."
"Techno inspired with a strong focus on rhythm and drums — not just straight banging stuff, but tracks that roll and evolve," he says. "I’m drawn to industrial textures, edgy patterns, and trippy layers, but the groove always comes first. It’s meant to lock people in without overthinking."
The artist has a two-track release coming out as part of a shared EP.
"Both tracks really lock in the vibe I’ve been chasing with this project — raw, percussive, and built for proper club systems," Paul says. "I kept things stripped but heavy, with a lot of focus on groove and texture."
As for gear: "I produce in FL Studio & Ableton and have a custom workflow that keeps things quick and fluid, only working directly in the box. I use Pioneer HDJ headphones both in the studio and while DJing. For sets I stick with Pioneer CDJs and DJM mixers — solid, reliable, and familiar. I’m not obsessed with gear; I just care about what helps the ideas come out clean."
Looking ahead, Tobias Paul has plenty planned for the rest of 2025.
"Right now, I’m just really focused on getting this first EP out with ARTCORE. It feels like the right home for the sound I’m building," he says. "I’ve always looked up to Indira Paganotto — the energy she brings and the world she’s created with the label is something I really respect. So, it’s a proper milestone for me to kick things off here. After the release, the plan is to keep developing the sound, start playing out more, and just fully lock into this new chapter.
