Electronic music artist BRVMES started producing in 2010 after being in hardcore bands growing up.
"I eventually learned about a band Sky Eats Airplane, who was a two person duo, with a Macbook running ‘Reason’ software," he says. "At the time, I had never seen something so over the top and absurd, but I fell in love. Right after, of course, I torrented to my heart's content a bunch of software and created a makeshift rig. It was until 2016 when I then really committed to getting serious and then in 2019 it was full blown all out because I finally understood what I wanted to convey and my vision."
Regarding his sound, "The BRVMES sound is sometimes orchestral, or sometimes the heaviest beat at 110bpm, but the bottom line is that the sound always has to be dripping in darkness, with a cold, deliberate elegance," he says. "This is the sound I always try to carve out when I communicate anything sonically no matter what it is. I really strive to transport the listener to another place, like a french haute couture runway show where they are the center piece.
"Others describe it as midtempo, because that is what people associate it to, but others would maybe say electro as well, and I do try to use a lot of these elements. I try not to stay in a box too much with these things and really create as desired. I always preferred to communicate an idealized texture palette, over a genre, so that it transports the listener into a certain head space or mentality."
BRVMES' latest release is the "DOOM" single.
"'DOOM' is the single from my upcoming EP 'Les Saisons' and my primary goal with this track was to make the heaviest hitting thing I can craft and that's it," he says. "No better title I could have come up with and it represents the most elegant way I could have communicated this. With DOOM, I wanted to focus on a menacing thick metallic synth, but contrast it with all of the hallmark orchestral sounds I grew up with as a kid."
As for gear: "I am a long time believer that less is more, and I stick to that. I try to use exclusively stock Ableton plugins as much as I can, and my DAW of choice is Ableton exclusively. Outside of the DAW, I use a lot of Roland 808 and 909, these never get old - as well as the Linn Drum. Some of the few outlier pieces of tech I use is Freakshow Industries plugins. My main synth sounds are all done in Serum, where I have a routine pattern of recreating old synths in there, like the german MFB Synth II or other discontinued mono synths."
Looking ahead, BRVMES has plenty planned for 2026.
"2026 is off to a great start after coming off of a collaboration with Rezz and Dillon Francis in 2025. Just this month I have my EP, Les Saisons releasing at the end of January and then the day after, 1/31/2026, I am lucky enough to have the opportunity to support Rezz at her upcoming show in Houston, TX for her As the Pendulum Swings Tour," he says. "This will be my first show back after a few years in the studio so I am beyond stoked to share all of the new music I've made. My time in France recently really reshaped my attitude and approach to creating music and this is the culmination of all of that bundled up into one."
