Jimi Hendrix was and continues to rank as the greatest guitarist of all time in various magazines and polls. For over 20 years, Experience Hendrix has been bringing his music to fans all over the US with guitar greats that influenced or were influenced by Hendrix and Hendrix band members. The Fall 2019 tour started Oct. 1 and stopped at the Grove of Anaheim in Anaheim, CA on Oct. 9. This tour included many returning guitarists like Dweezil Zappa, Jonny Lang, Eric Johnson, Ana Popovic, and closing out the show was Joe Satriani. Janie Hendrix, Hendrix’s sister came out to speak before the show and awarded a guitar to a young artist named Luis.
Many fan favorites of Hendrix were played starting with “Freedom,” and ending with “Voodoo Child.” There were many great guitar duets including Ana Popovic and Dweezil Zappa, and Eric Johnson and Johnny Lang. There were 26 songs in total which showed how much great music Hendrix recorded in such a short amount of time between originals and blues covers with his bands Experience Hendrix and Band of Gypsys. A big highlight was blues legend Taj Mahal and Band of Gypsys bassist Billy Cox performing “Hey Joe.” This year was the 50th anniversary of Woodstock and next year will mark 50 years since Hendrix’s untimely passing at 27. After decades, his legacy continues and his music has gone on to influence new generations of guitarists.
The final tour date for this run is Oct. 22 in San Antonio, TX.
