Guitar legends Dave Mason (Traffic) and Steve Cropper (Booker and T. and the MG’s) stopped at The Rose in Pasadena, CA on Sept. 28 as part of the first-ever tour together named Rock and Soul Revue. The setlist was full of Traffic classics and hits, Cropper played with the MG’s as well as STAX hits he played on. The show started with Mason’s band playing a six song set starting with "Crossroad Blues" and ending with Aretha Franklin’s "Chain of Fools."
Vocalist Gretchen Rhodes joined in for three of the songs. The show consisted of a total of 18 songs with Cropper playing on select songs. The opening song was Wilson Pickett’s “In the Midnight House” and the closing song was Sam & Dave’s “Soul Man.” The set included Traffic’s “Dear Mr. Fantasy” and “Feelin’ Alright,” The MG’s “Green Onions,” Eddie Floyd’s “Knock on Wood” and Jimi Hendrix’s cover of “All Along the Watchtower,” which Mason played on the original recording.
Mason plays a solo tour until Nov. 11 and resumes touring with Cropper in Feb. 2019.
