Chart-Topping Producer Reed Launches New Label

Chart-topping and sought-after producer and songwriter Ricky Reed has announced his new label, Nice Life Recording Co., under Atlantic Records, along with the release of Nice Life signee Lizzo's new single "Good As Hell". The news follows the release of Meghan Trainor's new single "NO," produced and co-written by Reed.

Acclaimed hip-hop artist Lizzo's "Good As Hell" is available on iTunes and Apple Music, following its premiere as Zane Lowe's "World Record" on Beats 1, and will be available across all digital service providers on March 11. The track is the follow-up to Lizzo's 2015 album Big GRRRL Small World, will be featured in the film Barbershop 3: The Next Cut, in theaters April 15 and on Atlantic's Barbershop: The Next Cut (Original Motion Picture Soundtrack), out everywhere on April 1. Lizzo, known for her powerhouse vocal skills and potent lyrical message, will be embarking on a series of live dates, including headline showcases at Los Angeles, CA's The Echo (March 23), New York City's Mercury Lounge (May 26) and London's Oslo (June 2), as well as performances at music festivals including Gulf Shores, AL's Hangout Music Festival (May 20), Boston, MA's Boston Calling (May 28), St. Paul, MN's SoundSet Music Festival (May 29), Paris, FR's Afropunk Fest (June 4) and Manchester, TN's Bonnaroo Music & Arts Festival (June 9).

Rising producer and artist Imad Royal, who worked on Panic! At The Disco's chart-topping 2016 album, Death of a Bachelor, is also signed to Nice Life.

Nice Life Recording Co., which will act as a label and publishing company, will be headquartered out of Reed's Elysian Heights studio in Los Angeles. Bradley Haering will head up A&R, and Ethan Shumaker will helm sound engineering, both former roommates of Reed’s from his early days in Echo Park. The studio has welcomed artists such as Jennifer Lopez, John Legend, Meghan Trainor, Phantogram and Jason DeRulo, and will now expand to house the work of Nice Life.

"It's about treating people with respect and kindness and trying, in a small way, to undo some of the sexism that pervades the music industry, and set up an ethical company run by sweet, good people that make great records that bring people together," Reed says. "It's also really important for us to always be rooted as a local business in Echo Park—to do events, affect other local businesses in a positive way and become part of the community around us."

2016 has been a busy year for Reed. In addition to producing and co-writing Meghan Trainor's "NO", he is executive producing the Grammy-winning pop superstar's sophomore album, Thank You, out May 13 on Epic Records. Reed is also behind several singles climbing the charts including twenty one pilots' Top 10 Alternative single "Ride" (he produced eight songs on the group's RIAA Platinum record Blurryface), Jason DeRulo's Top 40 hit "Get Ugly" and Pitbull's new single "Bad Man" ft. Robin Thicke, Travis Barker and Joe Perry, which he performed on guitar with Pitbull at the Grammys this year. He also helmed Bomba Estereo's Grammy-nominated new album Amanecer. Reed, who fronts the California-based hip-hop/pop group, Wallpaper, has produced and co-written hits such as Jason Derulo's "Talk Dirty," Pitbull's "Fireball," Lunchmoney Lewis' "I Got Bills" and Fifth Harmony's "Boss."
