Cal Jam 17 Music Fest in San Bernardino, CA

One of the day's most popular attractions (continual long lines of people patiently waiting) was the Foo Fighters Rock N’ Roll Museum with displayed items spanning the band’s career. Included among the band’s memorabilia were Grohl’s leg cast (after falling at a gig in Sweden) and the walking boot. Situated outside the museum was the accompanying stage throne Grohl used while touring with his broken leg (yes, fans could sit on it) and the white limousine from the “White Limo” music video (no, fans couldn’t drive it).

On-site camping and swimming (the Foo Family Fun Camp) began on Friday, Oct. 6, with either RV or car camping options. Campers were treated to an outdoor movie theater and a Friday-only live performance by Big Tony and Trouble Funk, the world’s famous Go-Go band. One of the most appreciated attractions inside the campground (considering the sweltering days with temperatures soaring up to 99 degrees Fahrenheit) was the water park with twin waterslides.

With Cal Jam 17 in the rear-view mirror, the Foo Fighters will head out on a fall North American tour in support of Concrete and Gold on Oct. 12. The journey begins in Washington, DC and will finish out in Salt Lake City, Utah on Dec 12. The band's full tour dates are available here.

When the closing notes rang out, for all those that attended one of the largest rock festivals to hit North America, one thing was unmistakable. Rock is more than just music. It’s a unifying power and escapism. A community where everyone reaches out and takes care of one another — Rock is family — Rock still matters. With 12 hours of pure rock and roll, Grohl’s vision became a reality on that blazing fall day; the ultimate live music backyard party for 50,000 people.

The Foo’s ended the special night with a bittersweet goodbye, and “Everlong,” “And I wonder,” Grohl sings, “When I sing along with you / If everything could ever feel this way forever / If anything could ever be this good again.”
