Book Review: Peter And The Wolves

An absolutely beautifully written autobiography. Growing up a troubled gay teen, Bertei realizes she can express herself as a singer. Meanwhile, Peter Laughner is the coolest guy in Cleveland, but chews through his bands with the same fiery passion that he has for drugs and alcohol. When he nurtures Bertei with guitar lessons, moral support and exposure to his record collection, she blooms under the spell of Patti Smith, Television, MC5, Roxy Music, Velvet Underground and The Stooges. This is a great memoir of the nascent Ohio punk scene that spawned Pere Ubu, DEVO, Rocket From The Tombs, and the massively talented yet doomed Peter Laughner.
