When hardcore bands nurse a fixation on being louder and scarier than anyone else, they can turn one-dimensional. On Flowers, metalcore veterans TDWP avoid this trap by fusing anguished vocals and violent instrumentation with uplifting pop melodies accented by soul-cleansing flourishes. Though some tonal shifts feel forced, these weaker moments are fleeting and rare. Truth be told, it seems the band is just now hitting its stride.
