AES Show 2025 Spotlights Brian Wilson’s Studio Legacy with Mark Linett and Warren Huart

The Audio Engineering Society (AES) has long been the global hub for professionals who shape how the world hears music, film, and sound. Each year, its flagship convention brings together leading engineers, producers, and innovators to share insights into the craft and technology of audio. This October, when AES Show 2025 takes over the Long Beach Convention & Entertainment Center, one session in particular will shine a light on the enduring artistry of Brian Wilson.

On Friday, October 24, from 2:30 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. PDT, AES will present “Inside the Productions of Brian Wilson: GRAMMY®-winning Engineer/Producer Mark Linett in Conversation with Warren Huart.”

A statement from AES describes the event as “a must-attend session for audio professionals, producers, and fans of studio innovation—a rare opportunity to hear firsthand from the engineer who helped bring some of the most complex and beloved pop recordings to life.”

That engineer is Mark Linett, a three-time GRAMMY® winner whose name is closely tied to the preservation and presentation of Wilson’s most ambitious works. His contributions range from the landmark Pet Sounds Sessions box set—featuring the first-ever stereo mix of the album, which earned a GRAMMY nomination—to recording and mixing Pet Sounds Live and Brian Wilson Presents SMiLE in both stereo and 5.1 surround. AES notes that his work “set a new standard for archival reissues,” offering listeners immersive new ways to experience Wilson’s music.

Alongside him will be producer Warren Huart, widely known as the host of Produce Like A Pro. Together, the pair will take audiences inside the creative process behind Wilson’s projects, exploring studio techniques, challenges, and decisions that helped shape Pet Sounds, the once-mythologized SMiLE sessions, and later archival releases such as Good Vibrations: Thirty Years of the Beach Boys, Made in California (1962–2012), Feel Flows, and Sail on Sailor.

While Wilson’s music is at the heart of the conversation, Linett’s broader credits demonstrate the range of his work. His discography includes projects with Randy Newman, Rickie Lee Jones, Jane’s Addiction, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Los Lobos, and Laura Nyro, among others.

For attendees, the session offers not only a closer look at a singular legacy but also a deeper understanding of how timeless recordings are preserved and presented for future generations.
