New Gear/ New Toy Review: Dynaudio Pro Two New Subwoofers

Dynaudio Pro has two new subwoofers. Both use long-throw 9.45-inch (24cm) drivers and both will work for stereo and surround monitoring applications.

The new 9S features one woofer while the 18S has two in a push-push opposing configuration--one woofer on each end of the enclosure. The 9S is powered by a 300-watt Class-D amplifier and has low-frequency extension and SPL performance Dynaudio says: "significantly outperforms the BM 9S II it replaces, while still preserving detail and precision." Its measured frequency range is 22Hz to 250Hz +/-3dB.

The new dual-driver 18S is powered by a 500-watt amplifier and features a powerful DSP engine with built-in presets for Dynaudio Pro studio monitors. In addition, there is time-alignment functionality and a three-band EQ to deal with specific room modal issues. Its measured frequency range is 16Hz to 230Hz +/-3dB.

Both new subwoofers come in sealed cabinets, with double front baffles, adjustable low-pass filters from 50Hz to 150Hz, satellite speaker outputs, a switchable high-pass filter. Both also include a signal-sensing auto-power circuit that saves energy when not in use. For larger rooms, it is possible to daisy chain multiple 9S or 18S subs together with the first unit controlling the volume for all of the subs together.

The 9S is $1,099 while the 18S is $1,949 MSRP.
