Musical Director and Percussionist Pauli The PSM, currently on Harry Styles' Together Together tour, told us about his love for his Talkback mic, Roland TR-1000, and Sennheiser HD25s...
Pauli the PSM:
The Talkback mic: The most important microphone in the show is the one the audience never hears. An MD’s most important tool is communication. conducting, encouraging, correcting, cueing, and translating an artist’s ideas into something the band and a crew of upto 100 people can understand, from the first day of rehearsals right through to the final second of a two hour show. The talkback is basically mission control.
Roland TR-1000 / Teenage Engineering OP-1
I’m loving getting away from the computer and getting ideas from my fingers into the room immediately. The TR-1000 has become a big part of that for me. The sounds, the effects, the swing, it’s all right there in one analogue unit, and it’s built like a tank. My Teenage Engineering OP-1 is my ace of spades when I need something more portable. Especially on flights and hotel rooms, I can be making something immediately. And I just love any gear that shortens the distance between the idea in my head and actually hearing it out irl.
Sennheiser HD25s
And none of this works without the my trusty HD25s. I’ve been advocating for them forever. To me, they’re the gold standard of headphones. You’d be hard-pressed to catch me onstage, backstage, in a DJ booth or travelling without a pair or 2 within arms reach.
