The Best Gig I Ever Saw: Izza Recalls Coachella 2014

Rising singer, songwriter, producer, and creative director Izza told us about her first Coachella, in 2014...

Izza: Growing up in Los Angeles, going to your first Coachella was a right of passage. The first Coachella I attended was in 2014. Most of the music I listened to back then were SoundCloud remixes of Kendrick Lamar or Chance the Rapper verses over Flume or Disclosure production. I was so excited to see Disclosure perform on Day 3 during their debut era. They brought out Sam Smith for “Latch,” and I remember my friend putting me on his shoulders. I felt so alive in that moment. If you asked me if I could go back and experience something for the first time again, it would be that moment of inhaling the desert air with the rainbow-lit palm trees in the background while listening to Disclosure.

During the set, I had a realization that honestly changed my life forever. As much as I loved absorbing the crowd's energy as a concertgoer, I knew that my true destiny was performing on stage. From that moment on, I was all in. There hasn’t been a day that goes by where I don’t think about music or being an artist. One of my dreams since then is to headline Coachella. I know that my purpose in life is to create art and bring people the same joy that I experienced that weekend.

Izza's EP A Night at the Ballet: Act I is out from July 17.
