Artists spend years discovering their voice. YALANA had to find her way back to it.
The Russian-born singer-songwriter recently joined The Jeremiah Show to discuss a creative journey that took her from fronting a rock band in Russia to building a successful public relations career in Los Angeles, before ultimately returning to the music that first inspired her. After moving to the United States and focusing on professional growth, music and songwriting gradually slipped from her life. For fifteen years, she didn't write a single song.
What followed was an unexpected period of self-discovery that reignited her creativity and led to a remarkable artistic resurgence. In the span of a year, YALANA wrote nearly twenty songs, channeling personal growth, healing, and reflection into a new body of work that includes the singles "Good Girl" and "I Am You, You Are Me." During our conversation, she spoke candidly about overcoming self-imposed limitations, challenging expectations, and learning that authenticity often begins when we stop trying to be who others expect us to be.
One of the most memorable moments came when Yalana recalled being told in a family intervention that no one could imagine her "in her 40s jumping on stage with a guitar." Today, she sees that prediction differently. As she shared on the show, "I'm almost in my 40s, and guess what? I'm going to throw a concert and dance on stage with a guitar.”
It's a reminder that creative dreams don't come with expiration dates—and that sometimes the most important journey isn't finding success, but finding yourself.
