Sean and Jason Mendelson share the inside story of the creative partnership that shaped Charles M. Schulz’s Peanuts comic strip, and how they’re preserving Vince Guaraldi’s music from lost studio tapes to new soundtrack releases for a new generation of listeners.
~
For Sean and Jason Mendelson, the world of Peanuts isn’t just a cultural legacy — it’s family history. Their father, producer Lee Mendelson, helped bring Charles M. Schulz’s beloved characters to television beginning with A Charlie Brown Christmas in 1965, launching a tradition of animated specials that shaped childhood for generations.
Today, the Mendelson brothers oversee the preservation, licensing, and restoration of those classic productions through Lee Mendelson Film Productions, carrying forward a creative partnership that once united Schulz, animator Bill Melendez, composer Vince Guaraldi, and their father.

In recent years, Sean and Jason have also become passionate stewards of Guaraldi’s music, helping uncover and restore original studio recordings from the Peanuts specials. Those discoveries have led to a growing series of soundtrack releases that allow fans to hear the sessions and performances in new detail. Their latest release, It’s Arbor Day, Charlie Brown / Charlie Brown’s All Stars, continues that work — celebrating the warmth, humor, and quiet emotional depth that made the Peanuts world timeless.
For the Mendelson brothers, it’s all about paying tribute to the original artists and ensuring that future generations can experience it with the same wonder as when they first encountered it.
