Memphis Record Pressing Announces "Artist Series" conversations

Memphis Record Pressing, in partnership with the Memphis Listening Lab, is proud to announce the “Artist Series,” a program of public conversations with music makers who have had records made at MRP.

The series kicks off at 6 p.m. Tuesday, July 25, at Memphis Listening Lab in Crosstown Concourse (1350 Concourse Ave.) with an appearance by Easy Eye Sound recording artist Robert Finley. Attendees will be able to hear select tracks from the Louisiana bluesman’s upcoming release, Black Bayou. Finley will also sit down with notes music journalist Mark Jordan to talk about his life and music and will also play a mini-set.

Attendance for all “Artist Series” is free.

Other performers scheduled to appear in the series are Memphis singer-songwriter Dan Montgomery (July 27) and swamp-soul princess Marcella Simien (August 31). More entries may be announced as artists become available.

The “Artist Series” is an extension of the kinds of performer visits that have been a staple at Memphis Record Pressing almost since its inception. Opened in 2015, MRP has grown rapidly to become one of North America's largest vinyl record manufacturers. The company routinely press albums by some of the most prominent major- and indie-label artist as well as up-and-coming acts. Following a major expansion that tripled the size of the operation, MRP is on track to press more than 20 million records in 2023.

Attracted by the novel, tactile nature of vinyl manufacturing — as opposed to the less-exciting, hands-off CD manufacturing process — many artists have made the pilgrimage to MRP to see their records being made. In recent years, MRP has hosted artists like Yola and Early James. Last spring, the “Artist Series” started with an appearance by Korean-American Kentucky bluesman Nat Myers.
