13-Year-Old Artist Stays Busy During COVID Crisis

Turning 13 during a pandemic has its natural challenges, but despite lockdowns, curfews and the need to navigate a new virtual public school system, amidst the chaos, Alexander James Rodriguez managed to safely and against all odds record three pop records in May. His debut single, “My Crew,” releases on all digital platforms today, July 7.

“We all need a good crew around us,said Rodriguez of his song, “especially in times like these, and I am grateful to have mine since day one.”

“My Crew” was spearheaded by Hollywood super-record producer and songwriter Laney Stewart, who has sold over 50 million records producing, writing, and publishing artists such as Chris Brown, Alessia Cara and Madonna to name a few. Written by Alex Jacke, singer in Kanye West’s “Sunday Service,” and writer on multiple hit records for various artists including Jason Derulo, Madison Beer, Kehlani and Kanye West, along with Liz Rodriguez (Viva! Makossa Magic), “My Crew” was recorded just ahead of the tween’s 13th birthday last month.

To get it all done, the young artist juggled 7th grade and the daytime recording sessions. I was doing my school assignments and all my zoom classes with my teachers from inside the vocal booth, and in between all of that, recorded the songs!”

“My Crew” is available for download on iTunes and all digital streaming platforms including Apple Music, Spotify, Amazon Music, YouTube Music, Tidal, SoundCloud, Pandora, DEEZER, iHeartRadio, Google Play, Xbox Groove and more.
