Brooklyn-based alt-indie pop artist JULESY told us about her Alex G experience.
JULESY: I've seen a lot of amazing performances, but probably the best gig I ever saw was Alex G at Webster Hall for the House Of Sugar tour. That album meant so much to me, in a hugely visceral way, and seeing it performed live was very cathartic. He opened with "Gretel", which has to be one of my favorite songs of all time.
The stage was simple but had the artwork as a backdrop, a beautiful painting of a figure skater sparkling in the background. I cried when the first drop came and the lights came up on the stage. He performed "Hope" later in the night at a more upbeat tempo, like he was trying to rush or push through it, and that made me cry as well. That song is so hard, and so heartbreaking. Half of the songs sounded exactly like the album, and half were totally new versions, which I loved. A
lso, when the show was over he played "Life Is A Highway" to walk out, iconic and perfect. It had been covid in between when this album was released and when he took it on tour, so there was a lot of time to marinate with it.
Finally seeing it live was a very full circle moment.
JULESY's Flip the Bed album is out now.
