Ten Songs to Launch October (Cont.)

U2

"October"

U2 keeps it quite moody here. Bono does his whisper, and, like usual, we all lean in.

Alessia Cara

"October"

Cara bottles that “last pumpkin spice of the season” feeling—cozy but fleeting.

Skid Row

"October's Song"

Not classic Skid Row by any means, this one was taken from 2022's The Gang's All Here EP, with vocalist Erik Grönwall, formerly of TV show Swedish Idol. It's got its charm though. Grönwall has since left the band after just two years, but he left his mark.

Duran Duran

"Secret Oktober"

Bit of a deep cut, this one, but a fan favorite. "Secret Oktober" was the b-side to the 1983 single "Union of the Snake," though it was later included on the 2010 limited, expanded edition of the Seven and the Ragged Tiger album (which, in our opinion, is Duran's best).

Amy Winehouse

"October Song"

Taken from her 2003 album Frank (a tribute to Sinatra as well as a nod to the lyrical tone of the album), "October's Song" itself was apparently written as a tribute to the late, great Winehouse's pet canary, which was named after actress Ava Gardner. Yes, really.
