Doug Wimbish is far from your average bassist. Now, in close collaboration with Spector, Wimbish has reimagined his iconic 1987 NS-2 bass into a new model designed for today’s players. A statement from the company discloses that the Euro 4 DW was “meticulously designed in close partnership with Doug Wimbish,” featuring a signature slim neck profile and narrow nut width “to offer unmatched speed and comfort.”
That attention to playability is matched by tone. The Euro 4 DW includes custom-voiced EMG pickups, specifically developed with Wimbish himself. “That unmistakable tone” that has powered “countless records, tours, and sessions," the company states.
As for aesthetics, this bass is as visually striking as it is sonically versatile. Available in Amber Stain and Black Stain gloss finishes, as well as a Limited Aged Nitro version, the Euro 4 Signature offers options for players who value both beauty and authenticity. The Aged Nitro finish, in particular, replicates the look and feel of Wimbish’s original bass, giving it a lived-in character that tells a story of decades of music.
Wimbish is clearly thrilled with the final result. “My Spector Euro 4 Signature Model is absolutely stunning—visually, sonically and with the feel of my original '87 NS-2 Spector 4-String,” he shared. “The stars aligned on this new model... Other standout features include a figured maple top, maple body wings, and a rosewood fingerboard with mother-of-pearl crown inlays. Gold Spector hardware adds a touch of elegance, while the Spector Legacy Preamp—a 2-band EQ inspired by the bold tones of the 1980s—helps shape the powerful, articulate voice that defines this model.
The Doug Wimbish Euro 4 Signature is now available from Spector dealers worldwide. The Amber and Black Gloss versions are priced at $3,499.99, while the Limited Aged Nitro finish comes in at $3,699.99.
