This role requires a deep understanding of Hip-Hop culture to ensure authentic representation in sync opportunities, while building connections with SMP's artists, producers, and labels to facilitate collaborations and licensing opportunities. It involves providing valuable input on song selection and placement to enhance the emotional impact of sync projects and leveraging familiarity with copyright and licensing issues to streamline negotiations and minimize legal complications, particularly regarding samples and interpolations. You will foster strong relationships with the frontline A&R department through regular attendance at A&R meetings, ensuring cross-collaboration for selective songwriters, and participating in studio and other music-making sessions to offer comprehensive creative feedback from a sync perspective. You will develop and deliver initiatives that provide creative opportunities for frontline Hip-Hop and R&B songwriters and their catalogues, negotiate and issue approvals or quotes for high-level sync deals in film, TV, trailers, promos, and other media, and manage a robust roster of A-level clients to meet customer requests promptly. Effective communication with writer approval parties and estates is essential, as is the ability to partner across internal divisions and with external stakeholders. The role also entails pricing the catalog strategically, understanding sync history and fee structures, pitching the SMP catalog to A-level clients to secure placements, collaborating with SMP artists to create original songs and covers for sync, and attending showcases, concerts, and other events to liaise with songwriters and their management teams.
