Adekunle Gold isn’t done with FUJI—not even close. And honestly, that’s the best news you’ll hear all week.
FUJI XTRA isn’t some lazy deluxe tacked onto a successful album cycle. It’s something more deliberate, more lived-in. A five-track expansion that doesn’t just revisit the world of FUJI—it deepens it, stretches it, and lets it breathe in ways the original simply couldn’t.
“I simply just felt like I had more stories to tell after Fuji,” Gold says. “I wanted to experiment more with that sound so I got back into recording.”
That instinct—to return, to refine, to push further—is what defines FUJI XTRA. Where the original album (released October 2025) reintroduced Fuji music through a modern Afropop lens, this new chapter leans even harder into that duality: tradition and evolution, rhythm and reinvention.

Gold is clear—this isn’t about padding a tracklist. It’s about protecting the integrity of what FUJI started.
“To be honest there were no challenges,” he explains, “but Fuji is already such a great album so to expand the world that I built with Fuji I had to be even more intentional to make sure that the stories, the emotions and the sonics of Fuji Xtra aligned.”
Intentional is the keyword here. You hear it in the structure, in the collaborations, in the careful balance between homage and forward motion. This is Fuji music—percussive, narrative-driven, communal—filtered through an artist who understands both its roots and its global future.
And maybe the biggest twist? The process itself.
“Whenever I’m recording an album, I typically will record more songs than I put out,” Gold says. “But with the Fuji album, I recorded the exact number of songs I wanted to release. So that was surprising for me, I had to get back into the studio and put myself back into the world of the initial album to be able to make these 5 Xtra songs.”
Re-entry isn’t easy. But Gold makes it sound like second nature.
The project’s five new tracks—“Formation” (feat. Olamide), “Shake Shake” (with TML Vibez), “Blue Fire” (feat. Simi), plus solo cuts “Life of the Faaji” and “I Got Wiser On My Own”—don’t just add variety. They expand the conversation.
“Formation,” in particular, feels like a moment. A first-time link-up between Adekunle Gold and Olamide, it bridges Fuji-inspired rhythms with modern Afrobeats energy—equal parts lineage and leap forward.

Across the project, each collaborator adds a distinct texture: Olamide’s street-rooted authority, TML Vibez’s next-gen spark, and Simi’s melodic intimacy (a creative chemistry that’s long been proven). The result is a body of work that feels communal without losing its center.
Still, don’t ask Gold to pick a favorite.
“I told myself I was going to stop picking favourites haha. I love every single song.”
Fair enough.
If FUJI XTRA has a mission, it’s bigger than streaming numbers or playlist placement.
“I hope people listen and through this album appreciate what Fuji music has to offer,” Gold says. “It’s such a vibrant and amazing genre and I want people to use this album as the touch point to learn more and go more in depth into Fuji music.”
That intention runs deeper than sound; it’s about legacy.
“Everything I release is intentional. Every sound, every lyric, every visual comes from somewhere real. I’m not chasing trends. I’m building a body of work that will still mean something years from now," he says.
And then he zooms out even further:
“This is my story, my history and my legacy. This is the sound of the city that birthed me, the hustle, the spirit and the joy of Lagos… Fuji Xtra is bigger than me and it’s bigger than music.”
That’s not just artist talk, it’s a thesis statement. If you thought this was a victory lap, think again.
As for the rest of 2026? “More live performances, I’ll be going on tour soon. More collaborations that cross borders and genres,” Gold says. “I want to take this music to places it hasn’t reached yet and connect with people who are just discovering me for the first time.”
And beyond that?
“I’m thinking legacy. Not just songs, but culture, platforms, and opportunities for the next generation of creatives coming from where I come from. I’m not done. Not even close.” Amen.
If this is what “extra” sounds like, we’ll take as much as he’s willing to give.
