Primary Wave Music Publishing Announces Three New Partnerships and Acquisitions

Primary Wave Music Publishing continues to expand and has announced three new deals. The firm has acquired the music catalog of the legendary jazz pianist and composer Count Basie, has entered into a long-term strategic partnership with the legendary British record producer and songwriter Pete Waterman, and will also now represent the music publishing catalog of the Grammy award-winning singer, songwriter, and guitarist Kenny Loggins.

Primary Wave Music Publishing has completed its acquisition of the legendary Count Basie music catalog. As part of this deal, the company has acquired all music assets, which includes copyrights and royalty streams of compositions written by Basie such as "One O'clock Jump" and "Jumpin' At The Woodside," as well as royalty streams for all masters he recorded including "April in Paris" and "Georgia on My Mind." To efficiently promote the Basie catalog, Primary Wave Music Publishing intends to collaborate with the Institute of Jazz Studies at Rutgers, which recently acquired the rights to Count Basie's name, likeness, trademarks and Basie's artifacts/memorabilia. Jazz icon, Count Basie, is considered one of the greatest bandleaders of all time. He was the arbiter of the big-band swing sound and his unique style of fusing blues and jazz established swing as a predominant music style. Basie changed the jazz landscape and shaped mid-20th-century popular music. Basie was a true innovator, leading the band for almost 50 years and recording on over 480 albums.  He earned nine GRAMMY Awards and made history in 1958 by becoming the first African-American to receive the award.  He has had an unprecedented four recordings inducted into the GRAMMY Hall Of Fame - "One O'Clock Jump" (1979), "April in Paris" (1985), "Everyday I Have the Blues" (1992), and "Lester Leaps In" (2005), along with a slew of other awards and honors not only for his music, but for his humanitarianism and philanthropy around the world.

The company has also entered into a long-term strategic partnership and acquisition with award-winning British record producer and songwriter Pete Waterman. This deal encompasses much of Waterman's extensive catalog including three of his biggest hits, "Never Gonna Give You Up" and "Together Forever" for Rick Astley, as well as "I Should Be So Lucky" for Kylie Minogue. Waterman started his career in music as a DJ before taking on a position in A&R for many years. He stepped out on his own as PWL or Pete Waterman Limited. As PWL, he signed producers Matt Aitken and Mike Stock and formed SAW. SAW is considered to be one of the most successful songwriting and producing partnerships of all time, scoring more than 100 UK Top 40 hits, 22 #1 hits, and selling over 40 million records.

As part of the agreement with Kenny Loggins, Primary Wave will now represent his music publishing catalog which includes some of Loggins' most well-known hits such as "Footloose," "I'm Alright," "Playing with the Boys," and "What a Fool Believes." Primary Wave will work with Loggins to not only market his catalog of music, but also his name and likeness. With this unique arrangement, Primary Wave's digital division will be handling all daily digital marketing activities to build awareness of Loggins' music and overall business, including touring, e-commerce and other direct-to-fan initiatives. Kenny Loggins has a music career that has lasted over four decades. He has topped record charts, won multiple awards including two Grammys, has rocked stages across the world and has sold millions of albums across multiple genres of music. He began his career as a member of the famed duo Loggins & Messina before his 1977 solo debut was released and went platinum. He has worked with a who's who of artists including Barbara Streisand, Fleetwood Mac, Michael McDonald, and so many more. In the 1980s, Loggins became the king of the movie soundtrack scoring tracks such as "I'm Alright" for Caddyshack and "Playing with the Boys" and "Danger Zone" for Tom Cruise's Top Gun. He contributed to the world-renowned charity single "We Are The World" and has gone on to release a Christmas album, two children's albums and multiple children's books including his latest project, the book FOOTLOOSE, which was inspired by the Oscar-nominated and Grammy award-winning song. This year he will be honored with the San Diego International Film Festival's inaugural Music Icon Award.
