Acclaimed queer Pakistani-American artist Ali Sethi told us about his love for a Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan and Michael Brook gem.
Ali Sethi: My all-time favorite album is Night Song, a mid-'90s collaboration between American producer Michael Brook and the late Pakistani qawwal Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan.
Khan spent most of his life electrifying global audiences with his vocal pyrotechnics, but on this record he sings softly, almost whispering traditional melodies over gossamer guitars and howling synth arrangements. Listening to this album now, all these years later, I always enter a meditative trance, and experience a kind of placeless belonging.
