Mark Knopfler

Mark Knopfler at the Greek Theatre in Los Angeles, CA

Last year marked the 40th anniversary of Dire Straits' self-titled debut album. Since then, Mark Knopfler has been recognized as one of the greatest guitarists world-wide and to play pick-less. After the group broke up in 1995, Knopfler released his first solo album a year later. He released his 10th solo album just last year, Down the Road Wherever. Knopfler ranked 27 on Rolling Stone’s 100 Greatest Guitarists of All Time list, is a four-time Grammy winner, and as a member of Dire Straits, was inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame. However, Knopfler did not attend the ceremony.

Mark Knopfler and his ten-piece band put on an extraordinary show at the Greek Theatre in Los Angeles, CA on Sept. 22. This was the second to last show of the tour with the final one at Madison Square Garden, three days later. Just a month before the show, Knopfler turned 70. His setlist was comprised of music from nearly all of his solo albums and five Dire Straits songs. There was a double encore of “Money for Nothing,” which to this day was one of the greatest MTV videos created and “Theme of the Local Hero.” Knopfler's voice sounded great and his guitar playing is still untouchable.
