Marilyn Monroe is, of course, one of the most iconic figures in American pop culture alongside the likes of Elvis and James Dean. The sort of mythological figures that, unless you were alive when they were, you can only imagine existing under studio lights. What’s often forgotten about Marilyn is how gorgeous her singing voice was. Maybe not—people tend to remember “Happy Birthday, Mr. President.” But beyond that, it’s a subject that requires more attention. Gaskin’s book covers some of that, including the fact that Marilyn is credited with introducing Ella Fitzgerald to the world. It’s a stunning book, jam-packed with beautiful photos and little-known facts, while focussing on the legacy that she left behind through the people who still adore her.
