Hoist the Colors Can't Do Without Their Ghost Echo Pedal

Adrian Mendez of Los Angeles folk-punk band Hoist the Colors told us about his love for his Ghost Echo Pedal.

Adrian Mendez: My favorite piece of gear I can’t do without is my Ghost Echo pedal from EarthQuaker Devices. We began writing and working out a new tune, “Documentation,” from our upcoming record “Dear Wanderlust.” Our singer, Josh, told us he was trying to get some space-y and soundscape-y tones and textures for this tune. Naturally, I went to YouTube and started searching for pedal demos using all the acronyms I could think of to match the descriptions. That’s when I came across the Ghost Echo reverb pedal. I knew immediately I had to have it. As soon I plugged it into my rig, I knew it was perfect.

This ultra spring reverb sound you get from this pedal just transports you to a different universe. It has the ability to be haunting but also vintage and familiar at the same time. I feel that the song Documentation has an underlying theme of tension in it, and that’s how the Ghost Echo is used. The pedal just creates these ambient swells that sit perfectly in the tension with that tune. It makes leads sound dynamic and sound like they are from another time…or another dimension.

Hoist the Colors recently signed with Hey!Fever Records and have a new LP due in the Fall.
