MC unexpectedly caught most of Novasoul's set at Coachella this year, while we were waiting for Slayyyter. As it turned out, that was a gift. The L.A.-based disco-house DJ was one of the better electronic artists we saw on Coachella Friday.
She started DJing just over 14 years ago. "So many of my friends were DJs at that time so I would show up to their practice sessions and learn some techniques here and there," Novasoul says. "That instantly grew my love for the art form and inspired me to take it to a serious level. I saved up money to purchase my own set of turntables and practiced for hours upon hours until I was ready to take on my first official club gig."
The Novasoul sound is a fluid mix.
"My sound is a blend of upbeat energy mixed with nostalgic elements," she says. "I love incorporating all types of genres such as r&b, global sounds, synth, house, disco, hip hop, and pop. My music library is super extensive so it allows me to experiment and flow in different directions."
Novasoul recently performed a four-hour set. "I jumped into different decades of music from the '80s to the 2000s," she says. "It was a packed dance floor and the energy of the crowd was up from start to end. It was an incredible event. As for recorded sets, you can find them on my Soundcloud (soundcloud.com/novasoulll). It’s a good mixture of disco, hip hop, house, & global sounds."
As for gear: "I like to be very well versed in gear but here are the ones I currently use: Technics 1200s turntables, DJM-S9 mixer, Serato DJ software, and Pioneer headphones."
Looking ahead, Novasoul has plenty planned for the second half of 2026.
