Hit the Decks! It's Disco Shrine

Dance-pop firestarter and DJ Disco Shrine started on her DJing path in 2017.

"It honestly happened very randomly," she says. "A friend of mine asked me to DJ his album release party, and I said yes without knowing how to DJ at all. So I basically went over to my friend’s house every night for a week, and in exchange for dinner, he taught me how to DJ. After that, I started practicing at home and DJing for my roommates every night, which eventually turned into more and more gigs and touring across the country. I’ve always been really involved in the production side of my music, but I started producing officially during the pandemic. That’s when it got serious."

Disco Shrine describes her sound as "campy dance-pop," which can be heard on recent single "Heart Eyesz."

"I made 'Heart Eyez' in Brooklyn with my friend Brand0 last year," she says. "I was in New York for a few days on an East Coast tour with my friend Madelline, and on my off day, Brand0 and I got together and 'Heart Eyez' was born. We probably made it in less than two hours, which is always when you know it’s a good one."

As for gear: "I use Pioneer CDJs when I’m DJing at clubs, but I also have an XDJ at home. I always bring a little DDJ-SB as a backup in case the venue’s decks don’t work, which happens more often than you’d think, lol. I wear my white Audio-Technica headphones. I’ve had them for years, and they’ve been through multiple tours and countries and have never broken, so shoutout to Audio-Technica. For production, I use Ableton, Splice, and Auto-Tune. I also started music on guitar, so I’ll always be a Fender girlie."

Looking ahead, Disco Shrine has plenty planned for 2026.

" I have so much unreleased music," she says. "It’s been really cathartic putting new music out, so I just want to keep feeding the people."

Disco Shrine's "Heart Eyez" is out now.
