Hit the Decks! It's Blood Vision

Electronic duo Blood Vision went to architecture school together, and decided to start DJing after they saw Zed's Dead at Red Rocks in 2019.

"Being inspired by another duo gave us the spark to try it out together," they say. "Our first mixes were made in Ableton before we bought decks. We then started to produce music shortly after and continued throughout the lockdown. We got to open for Zeds Dead in 2023, which really drove us to take our project seriously and develop a brand."

The duo says that their sound has a dynamic range, "going from heavily textured drops to dark minimal bass and adding in touch of deep techno to keep the listeners engaged. We call our fanbase 'Night Owls,' and they've referenced our sound to be a mix between Svdden Death and Rezz, which we totally agree with. Most of our sound reflects the times that we're in and what we're feeling inside. We think our Night Owls resonate because they experience the same emotions and thoughts that drive our music."

The latest release is "Altered Reality."

"'Altered Reality' was created as part of a 31 day music challenge in October 2023," they say. "We called it Bloodtober, and created a song a day based on a word prompt. This song was created on the last day of that challenge and the word was 'Fire.' At the time we created this, we felt like we were caught between two versions of life, one that was real, and one that was out of our control. That feeling is what inspired us, and led us to later name the song 'Altered Reality.' We had no idea at the time what this challenge could've done for us, but we had 31 finished songs that have ended up becoming the core of our discography."

As for gear: "For mixes and live sets, we start by trying out unique edits and transitions in Ableton, then use Rekordbox for the set prep and live DJing. We have never had CDJs, but we use a Pioneer FLX6 to practice and prepare for shows. When we produce songs, we go back and forth between the Beyerdynamic DT 770 PRO 250ohm and Mackie MR624 Studio Monitors, but most of the time we just use our 2019 Macbook Pro speakers."

Looking ahead, Blood Vision has plenty planned for 2026.

"We have a ton of singles lined up for the rest of the year," they say. "We have an original mix that's going to be released with Hypnovizion shortly after Altered Reality. We don't have any shows lined up as of now, but we'll see as the year progresses. Either way we're going to keep making and releasing music for all our Night Owls."

Blood Vision's "Altered Reality" is out now.
