John Power of Cast (as well as solo artist and former member of The La's) told us about his love for his 1957 Fender Esquire...
John Power: I’ve had this guitar since near the beginning with Cast – probably since 1995. It’s been on a musical journey with me. It’s been on every tour we’ve done and seen all the highs and lows with me. The reason I love it is because it has a certain lightness and brightness of sound that makes it more focused. I’m not the lead guitarist so that is exactly what I need it to do.
We have history together, me and this guitar. It has seen all the epic gigs and tours like Loch Lomond and Knebworth in the '90s, last year’s stadium dates, and the ‘All Change’ 30th anniversary tour last autumn. It’s been on the post La’s musical journey with me with its beautiful, oscillating tone which gives me something to lean into.
It’s been there with me helping me find my musical mojo. It has loads of character. I’d say it was part of the family.
Cast's new album Yeah Yeah Yeah is out now.
