Audio Engineering Society Announces Scholarship for Recording Engineering Students

The AES Educational Foundation has announced the formation of the Mary Lea Simpson Memorial Scholarship. Mary died suddenly in 2013 in a tragic building collapse in Philadelphia. The Scholarship, full tuition for the final year of studies, is being offered to an undergraduate student entering senior year at a North American college or university Audio Engineering/Recording Arts Program.

Mary was a graduate of the Audio Production Program at New England Institute of Art, and was the recipient of the Naked Ear Achievement Award for Best Music Production from Naked Ear Records in 2012. The scholarship is endowed by her family, father and mother Dr. Zachary W Simpson, and Starr Harris Simpson, and brother George B Simpson, and administered by the Audio Engineering Society Educational Foundation.

The Mary Lea Simpson Memorial Scholarship will be offered annually to a student in the field of audio engineering who is an AES member, maintains a GPA of 3.3 – 4.0, and who shows a proficiency recording, mixing or mastering skills, as well as academic achievement. The application period runs from March 15 - June 1, 2018.

The Audio Engineering Society Educational Foundation, through efforts like the newly established Mary Lea Simpson Memorial Scholarship, is dedicated to encouraging the entry of talented students into the profession of audio engineering.
