Apple Music Launches 'Behind the Songs'

Apple Music has launched “Behind the Songs,” a new home dedicated to showcasing, highlighting and celebrating songwriters, producers, session musicians and their work. “Behind the Songs” highlights creators through Apple Music's key playlist brands: Songbook and Behind the Boards, and will allow songwriters and publishers to participate in regularly updated editorial features and promotions with Apple Music and its subscribers. This communal space will also feature Apple Music original content, including Lyrics To Live By and Song Stories.

Furthering Apple Music’s aim to boost exposure for the songwriting community, “Behind the Songs” will be fully searchable in Apple Music, significantly increasing the audience for the songwriter conversation. It will appear for any subscriber searching for “Songwriter(s).” Combined with lyric-search, lyric share, time-synced lyrics, and more, there are even more opportunities to be discovered.

The world of songwriting comes to life with Apple Music radio shows like Deep Hidden Meaninghosted by the legendary Nile Rodgers and dedicated entirely to songwriters and their stories. Each month, Nile interviews songwriters about their biggest songs, spotlighting songwriters experiencing their first cut, and lauding songwriters from countries around the world. On Apple Music Country, songwriters like Luke Laird, host of Country Replay RadioLittle Bit Country host Jesse Frasure, and the newly launched Love Junkies Radio with Lori McKenna, Liz Rose, and Hillary Lindsey, take you behind the scenes of all things happening in Nashville and beyond.

“Apple Music has, above all, continued to invest deeply in the songwriting community and its various components, and 'Behind the Songs' is a new place we can call home. I’ve loved bringing the stories of today’s most inspiring songwriters to life on my Deep Hidden Meaning radio show, and Apple Music been able to spotlight the best of what’s next with their resolute support of The Ivors Academy and the Rising Star Award.”  - Nile Rodgers

"Behind the Songs" is also home base for Apple Music’s partnership with The Ivors Academy, the body representing the UK’s songwriters and composers, bringing wider exposure and development opportunities for its community of music creators. Since 1956, The Ivor Novello Awards have honored the very finest songwriting and screen compositions in the UK and Ireland; the coveted Ivor Novello Award statuettes have graced the mantelpieces of luminaries ranging from John Lennon to Paul McCartney, Dizzee Rascal and Amy Winehouse. Nominated alongside such well-known names are more than 30 individual writers who don’t themselves grace the stage, from the industry-leading co-writers with whom they achieved greatness to the screen composers who enhanced the most talked-about TV, film and video games of the last year. Here you’ll keep up to date with the nominees for the brand-new Rising Star Award With Apple Music (to be unveiled on July 27th, 2021), celebrating the next generation of exceptional songwriters.
