Alex Bloom Can't Do Without His Fender Avalon Acoustic Guitar

L.A.-based indie rock artist Alex Bloom told us about his Fender love...

Alex Bloom: The piece of gear I can’t do without is my Fender Avalon acoustic guitar. It was given to me as a gift by a friend of my dad’s when I was in high school. I have used it to write and record so many of my songs, including many from my new album, Across the Country.

I really like the way it sounds, especially when I use it in my tuning CGDFAD. It has a unique sound to it, like a little bit of natural grit. I installed an LR Baggs acoustic pickup which sounds great when playing live or recording it DI or even out of an amp. Sometimes I’ll even sing into the acoustic pickup and see what happens…

Instead of having any tattoos on my body, I put stickers on this guitar. It has accumulated many stickers over the years, my favorite is frog Mario diving into the sound hole. I also like the silver “1” that I peeled off an elevator opening before a building was going to be demolished. It has an electric headstock even though it’s an acoustic, which I thought was extremely cool in high school.

This guitar has been with me through so many chapters of my life and musical journey, and will continue to be!

Alex Bloom's new album Across the Country is out now.
