According to news breaking this week, "The Los Angeles Chapter of the Association of Independent Music Publishers (AIMP) has awarded its seventh annual Linda Komorsky AIMP Scholarship to Samantha Navarro, a Music Industry student at the USC Thornton School of Music. Navarro received a $4,000 scholarship and a one-year AIMP membership during the AIMP Music Trivia Night & Scholarship Presentation held last week at BMI in Los Angeles."
"Navarro, who transferred to USC after earning an associate degree in journalism from Long Beach City College, has built an impressive resume spanning music publicity, artist management, editorial work, branding, photography, and social media strategy," a statement reads. "She recently completed an internship with Biz 3 Publicity and will soon begin a PR internship with Big Loud Rock. Navarro is also the founder and editor-in-chief of Pink Noise Magazine, an independent publication focused on emerging artists and live music culture."
“I’m incredibly honored to receive this year’s Linda Komorsky AIMP Scholarship,” said Navarro. “Music publishing and artist development are areas I care deeply about, and being recognized by AIMP means so much as I continue building a career supporting artists and creative communities. This scholarship gives me even more motivation to keep learning, growing, and creating opportunities for others through music.”
“Receiving the Linda Komorsky AIMP Scholarship is incredibly meaningful to me," Navarro told MC. "As someone who hopes to build a career in music publishing, it’s inspiring to be recognized by an organization that has done so much to support and advocate for independent publishers and songwriters. I’m grateful for the encouragement and excited to continue learning, growing, and contributing to the industry.”
"In addition to Navarro, AIMP LA presented four additional awards to students whose applications demonstrated exceptional promise, creativity, and commitment to the future of the music industry. Receiving the Special Recognition Award of $500 was Shawn DiGregorio (USC), who also received a one-year AIMP Membership. Special Acknowledgement Awards went to Kai Yu Li (Cal State Northridge), Katrina Sung (Cal State Northridge), and Jada Sturges-Travis (USC), each receiving a $250 scholarship and a one-year AIMP membership," a statement continues.
“The AIMP Scholarship is about investing in the future of the music industry and supporting students who are passionate about helping creators build sustainable careers,” said Barbie Quinn, Scholarship Committee Chair and AIMP LA Chapter Board Member. “Samantha and all this year’s recipients brought an incredible level of thoughtfulness, ambition, and creativity to the process. We’re proud to welcome them into the AIMP community and excited to see where their paths lead.”
“AIMP has always believed strongly in education, mentorship, and creating opportunities for the next generation entering the publishing business,” added Frank Handy, AIMP National Chair. “These students represent the future of our industry, and it’s incredibly encouraging to see so much talent, curiosity, and drive coming into the space at a time when publishing continues evolving so rapidly.”
